Currys electrical shops – a disgusting rip off shop
I can’t remember the last time I was this annoyed about a purchase. My dad bought a new Samsung TV on Saturday – not from Currys luckily or he would have had to remortgage the house. Anyway, I went up to help him because he wanted it mounted on the wall like his old plasma television.
Well, of course the wall mount wouldn’t fit and I needed to get it put up on Saturday because there simply was no other time to do it. So, I popped into Currys to by a wall mount. Because it’s a slim television I needed a slim wall mount. The Samsung wall mount from Currys was £120! I then had to purchase an HDMI cable and the cheapest one I could find in there was £17.
So, I got home and put the television up for him. Firstly, do not buy the Samsung WMN2000CX/XC TV Bracket from anyone whatever price you get it at. There are about four parts that you need and you’re paying for other parts for other sized televisions.
Secondly, I couldn’t believe the price of the TV bracket so I checked on Amazon. They had it for £60! Half the price. Now, as I’ve said before on this blog, I don’t mind paying extra for convenience and I fully understand that a shop – even on a retail park as bad as this one – has overheads that an online retailer doesn’t have – but 200% of the price, £60 more?! No way, that’s a complete rip-off. The HDMI cable was roughly 400% of the online price, too.
Now, I’ve just looked on Currys website and they have the product marked at £89.99 reduced from £119 http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-wmn2000cx-xc-tv-bracket-for-58-63-televisions-10788201-pdt.html and that it was the £119 price from 30/06/11 to 07/05/12.
I won’t bother ringing customer services because they even make money from the 0870 number, so I will have to go back into the store when I next visit. But I can tell you this – I will never make a purchase in one of their stores again no matter how much I need a product. And I don’t think I’m the only one – type in ‘currys rip off’ into Bing or Yahoo! and you’ll see that this is one of the most unpopular high street stores in the UK.
I look forward to seeing them disappear from the high street – it won’t be long.
